John Mayer leaves Columbia Records

John Mayer is opening a new chapter in his career and he’s not doing it with his long-time music label.

The singer-songwriter-guitarist posted on his Instagram late this week that he did not renew his contract with his music label of the past two decades, Columbia Records.

Storied record label Columbia Records has been home to Mayer for the past 21-years.

Mayer has released all his albums under Columbia, starting with his debut album “Room For Squares,” and succeeding records that include “Heavier Things,” “Continuum,” “Battle Studies,” “Paradise Valley” “Born and Raised,” “The Search For Everything” and his most recent, “Sob Rock.”

Mayer wrote, “After 21 years, eight studio albums, and some wonderful personal and creative relationships, I have decided not to renew my recording agreement with Columbia Records. Hard as it is to say goodbye, I’m excited to pursue new avenues of making music, both on my own and with other artists.”

Mayer did promise that there is much to look forward to in the coming future.

“I love music more than ever, and I believe some of my best work still lies ahead. With Gratitude and enthusiasm, John.”
