AUDIO JUNKIE: Amiel Sol, Xavier, Thursday Honey, All Day Sunday, Iyann, Feel Day: Of debuts and other Pinoy pop notables

Here’s a few of the notable new ones and debuting music acts of Pinoy pop.
Acoustic guitar-toting singer-songwriters are dime-a-dozen, but every now and then, someone new and interesting comes along and refreshes the genre.
Debuting Amiel Sol is one of those. This former D.I.Y. music artist (he has since signed with a label) is all about writing acoustic flavored ballads and songs. He mentioned that he sounds the way he does because the guitar is an easily accessible instrument for him. But he also said that when he gets the chance, he intends to put more instruments in his recordings once it is made available to him. And he’s already made good on that promise with “Fading Away” which already markedly sounds different from his previous releases. This chill R&B sounding new song is about “a love that once burned bright but has since lost its fire.”
“All The Time” is the OC Records debut single of Thursday Honey. T.H. is the nom de guerre of Bianca Selda, the voice behind this retro-pop sounding number. This tune is all about wanting to be with your loved one “All The Time” and Thursday Honey’s lo-fi dream pop sound mixed with retro pop (in a new wave kind of thing) certainly draws the listener in with his sentimental yearnings and sonics that conjure a relaxed and innocent time.
Iyann (real name Christian Dominic Miranda) makes his OC Records debut via the single titled “I Get it.” Iyann’s mid-tempo track is a grooving number that is equal parts chill pop and trap-beats imbued R&B. “My inspiration for this track is (about) overthinking about what will happen in the future with a romantic relationship. Will it get better over time, or will it cause two people to drift apart,” said Iyann. That’s a legitimate thought. And It’s not like Iyann is the only one who worries about these things. But one wouldn’t think Iyann nitpicking over his relations as he sounds so cool and calculating on “I Get It.”
All Day Sunday makes its label debut with the alt-rock sounding original song titled “Crying Out.” A.D.S. is musician and singer Pax Dionson. His late 90s early aughts alt-pop sounding new song is inspired by his experience as a young parent. “Being a single dad at a young age wasn’t easy for me,” he said, adding that “there are moments I felt lost and unsure.” But Pax eventually found his groove and has written songs about his experience. Pat Dionson’s got a nice, robust vocal going for him, and he puts it to good effect to deliver this song of hope.
Xavier makes his case for listeners to give him their time on his debut single titled “Dahan.” This sleek sounding new original is the current R&B sound that fans have been listening and vibing on of late. Think Arthur Nery, and you’ll get an idea how this song sounds like. Xavier Hermano puts emotion and soul into his R&B-laced singing and his tones—those sweet-sounding tenor that go falsetto and back seamlessly—is telling us that Xavier is a singer to watch out for.
Feel Day aren’t exactly a new act, but their new single definitely sounds like a new start. “DPM” stands for ‘Dito Pala Magpapaalam’ and it’s the beautiful sounding rock ballad from pop and alt-rock band Feel Day. Here, songwriter Jek Buenafe writes about the inevitable goodbye. This piano-decked ballad eventually rises to an edgy but tasty rock band roar in the middle that emphasizes the emotional rollercoaster Feel Day is singing about.
