Muntinlupa City Council passes ordinance to help fire victims in Alabang

The Muntinlupa City Council held an emergency special session on Friday, March 25, to pass an ordinance providing financial assistance to families affected by a fire in Barangay Alabang.

On the night of March 24, a fire razed a residential community in Purok 7C Ilaya, in Alabang, Muntinlupa where 25 houses were razed, according to a report by the Muntinlupa City Fire Station.

During the special session, councilors passed an ordinance granting financial assistance to about 206 families affected by the fire, according to Majority Floor Leader Raul Corro.

The city government will give P10,000 to affected house owners, P5,000 to house sharers and renters, and P3,000 to owners of partially damaged houses.

The city’s Social Services Department (SSD) conducted a house mapping to identify the affected families in the fire. It said affected families are staying with their relatives while others decided to stay in the area. The SSD provided hot meals and “ayuda” boxes to the families.

Instead of holding a motorcade on the first day of campaign on March 25 for the May 9 elections, councilors decided to hold the special session to pass the ordinance to help the affected families.

According to the Muntinlupa City Fire Station, the fire started at about 7:30 p.m. and reached the second alarm before it was put out at 9:05 p.m.

Investigators estimated the damage to property at P500,000. No one was injured in the fire.
