BACOLOD CITY - Some residents in Barangay Vista Alegre here were affected after an overflow that connects Purok Katilingban and Purok Kawayanan collapsed due to flooding caused by heavy rains from late Wednesday night to Thursday morning.

According to Barangay Captain Jose Maria Leandro Norberto de Leon, affected residents will have to use the concrere foot bridge constructed by the barangay for them to be able to cross the river.
However, vehicles and motorcycles will have to use the alternate route at Bangga Bagul in Barangay Granada here.
De Leon said that a new overflow should have been constructed in the previous years, as the P18.5 million budget for the project was already approved, but the city government realigned the budget for the Covid-19 response.
De Leon said they are just waiting for the process for the project to be implemented, which he hopes to be be given priority soon.
Meanwhile, Executive Assistant Joemarie Vargas, cluster head of Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (DRRMO), said that some 25 families composed of at least 80 individuals living near the Magsungay River in Barangay 39 here, were evacuated due to flooding last Thursday.
Vargas said the evacuated families temporarily stayed at the barangay’s covered court while others took shelter at the health center. But, they returned to their respective homes later that day when the flood water subsided.
