John Mayer contracts COVID for the second time, reschedules tour

John Mayer postponed a handful of upcoming shows from his current "Sob Rock" tour after he and some members of his touring entourage contracted COVID-19.

This is the second time Mayer tested positive for the virus.

In early January, the “Last Train Home” singer cancelled shows with Dead and Company in Mexico having contracted the virus.

Mayer’s ongoing "Sob Rock" tour is in support of his most recent album that bears the same title.

Mayer announced the rescheduled shows on his Instagram. Supposed tour stops at Pittsburg in PPG Paints Arena (May 5), New York in the UBS Arena in Belmont Park (May 7), and two nights at Boston’s TD Garden (May 9 and 10) are the affected dates.

The tour had met some difficulties in the past few days when touring drummer Steve Ferrone and backing vocalist Carlos Ricketts tested positive for the virus prior to their Madison Square Garden shows earlier this week.

Mayer did manage to get Questlove (from The Roots and "The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon") to sit in as drummer and went on with the show.

In the same post Mayer wrote: “Whelp. More members of the band tested positive for Covid today, and I was one of them. I’m so sorry to make you change your plans. This is a bummer for everyone in the band and crew, to say nothing of the question hanging over everyone’s head – mine included – as to how I tested positive on PCR twice in two months. (The first was extremely mild, but this one’s got the better of me.) We’ll give you everything we’ve got at these upcoming shows, just as soon as we rest up and regroup. With love and appreciation."
