Agri and infra damage due to heavy rains, widespread flooding now over P300M
The damage wrought by the heavy rains to agriculture and infrastructure in Mindanao and two other regions has reached almost P300 million so far, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported on Thursday, Dec, 29.
The NDRRMC data also disclosed that the heavy rains that triggered widespread flooding and landslides also affected over 486,000 people, more than 111,000 of them were forced to flee their homes and are currently seeking refuge to various evacuation centers and the house of their relatives.

Based on the reports coming from the ground, the damage to agriculture has already reached P206 million while that in infrastructure was pegged at more than P51.5 million.
In terms of agricultural damage, the NDRRMC said Northern Mindanao suffered the most with P147.6 million worth of agricultural products destroyed, followed by the Bicol region with more than P56 million.
On infrastructure damage, Northern Mindanao reported P41 million worth of damage to roads, bridges and other infrastructures, followed by Bicol region with P5 million and Davao region with P4 million.
The NDRRMC also reported that there were a total of 3,322 houses destroyed worth over P41 million. The Northern Mindanao region reported the most number of partially and totally destroyed houses.
The assessment of damage continues.
Aside from Northern Mindanao, Bicol Region and Davao region, the heavy rains also affected Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula Region and Caraga region.
