BuCor arrests woman for 'attempt to sneak in illegal drugs' during conjugal visit at Bilibid
The common-law wife of a person deprived of liberty (PDL) at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City was arrested after she allegedly attempted to sneak in what was suspected to be illegal drugs when she was allowed a “stay-in conjugal” visit last Dec. 23.
The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor), in a statement on Wednesday, Dec. 28, did not identify the arrested woman who has been turned over to the Muntinlupa City police.
Corrections Chief Insp. Sonny del Rosario, head of BuCor’s public information office (PIO), said the suspected illegal drugs seized from the woman were turned over to the crime laboratory for verification.
Del Rosario said that “once confirmed that these are illegal drugs, we will file charges against the woman.”
“Yung nahuli ay civilian visitor ng isang inmate sa Maximum Security Compound (The one arrested is a female visitor of an inmate staying at the Maximum Security Compound),” he said.
“Mag-avail sana sya ng stay-in ng gabi ng Dec. 23 (She was supposed to avail herself of the stay in visit on the night of Dec. 23),” he noted.
He said “nahuli sa lower part niya ‘yung drugs (the drugs were found in the lower part of her body).”
BuCor had earlier allowed “stay-in conjugal” visits of PDLs at NBP in the spirit of the Christmas season. The visits were held last Dec. 23 to 26 and will still be allowed from Dec. 30 to Jan. 2, 2023.
Del Rosario explained that “stay-in conjugal” visits are allowed under the BuCor’s operating manual.
“Nasa discretion ng Director kung kailan iga-grant, normally mga special occasions (The BuCor director has discretion when this is granted under the manual and usually it is granted during special occasions),” he said.
He stressed that all visitors at the NBP and other detention facilities of BuCor are mandated to follow rules and regulations, particularly against banned items inside the jails.
“Mahihirapan silang mgpuslit ng kontrabando ngaun dahil sa higpit pa ring proseso sa pagdalaw ang ipinatutupad natin. Bagamat ibinibigay natin ang ganitong stay in or conjugal visit rights, patuloy pa rin nating ipinatutupad ang paghihigpit o paggamit ng tamang security measures (They will have difficulty getting contraband in because of the strict process for visits. Even though we allowed this stay-in conjugal visit rights, we will continue to enforce strict security measures),” he said.
“Visitation rights and privileges of PDL and/or his visitor who will be caught in possession of contraband items and upon the involvement of PDL in any riots, commotions, and other forms of disturbances will be suspended indefinitely,” he also said.
