During my student years in UST, I would watch the yearly UAAP Cheerdance Competition to support one of our classmates who was part of the UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe. It was also the winning year of the team. (kaya masarap manuod na inihagis hagis sa ere sa ate classmate!) I stopped watching after graduation because I got busy with work. (feeling abala!) But in 2014, my special partner, Bryan Talatala, encouraged me to watch again (bilang dati syang FEU Cheering Squad member). It became our yearly tradition since then. (kasi parang wala naman akong choice!)
Of course, we were present for the Season 85 of the UAAP Cheerdance Competition at the MOA Arena last Saturday. (walang makakapigil!) I used to get good seats from a dear friend but lately we would just purchase overpriced tickets from “sellers” (pahirapan ang tickets ha! medyo ilang seasons nang ganito!)
The cheerdance event always showcases an amazing vibe. We love the energy of the participants and the love that the universities give their teams. (ang lakas maka-bagets tuwing manonood ka!) I just hope more sponsors will support this kind of event for organizers to have the means to provide higher cash prizes. (ang laki na nang binaba ng papremyo) We all know that in this competition, the pride, passion and dedication of the students are more important than the money. But giving away significant amount to winners is not a bad idea. (hindi biro yung iwasiswas yung mga bata sa performance ha!)
For this year, UST got the second place for their Lady Gaga-inspired theme. (nakakaloka lang yung kakulay ng hair ko yung hair ng performers nila! Nagpabuhat sana ako!) FEU, on the other hand, received the first runner-up award for their tribute to Francis Magalona. (sana binuhat nila si Maxene! Chos!) I am very happy for the NU PEP Squad who are once again the Champions! Their cheerobics routine (ume-aerobics ang mga bagets!) was a sure win. (halos every year silang win ha!)

In my 10 years of supporting the UAAP Cheerdance Competition, I became a fan of National University’s team. (kahit graduate ako ng UST at naging lecturer noon sa FEU ha!) I remember becoming their instant supporter the first time I saw them perform. I always see the total package in them every year. They always have the best stunts, dance routines, costumes and gimmicks. (at mukha silang mga mababait na bata!) They always have this “buwis buhay stunts na ayaw tumigil” trademark, (as in sunod sunod talaga!) well designed costumes (mukha silang mamahalin!) and creative execution (matataba ang utak ng nag-isip!) Congratulations! (FU loves NU! Ipilit nating mag-rhyme ha!)
