Three suspected robbers, who were believed to be targeting foreigners in their operations, were arrested for illegal possession of firearms in Manila, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) said Friday, Dec. 2.
The NBI identified those arrested as Darryl Sunga Eugenio, Ryan “Bombay” Davantes Espadero, and Ramil Mercado Talampas.
It said the trio were arrested last Nov. 6 inside a parked taxicab in Malate, Manila during an operation conducted by the NBI’s Anti-Organized and Transnational Crime Division (NBI-AOTCD).
“Found in the possession of Subject Eugenio were one (1) pistol loaded with ammunition, one (1) grenade, and one (1) mobile phone. On the other hand, confiscated from Subject Espadero were one (1) revolver loaded with ammunitions, one (1) roll of Duct Tape, and one (1) pair of Scissors. Also confiscated were various identification cards of the three arrested subjects,” the NBI said.
With their arrest, the three suspects were presented for inquest before the Manila Prosecutor’s Office for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition in violation of Republic Act No. 10591, the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
The NBI said “the case stemmed from an information received by the NBI-AOTCD regarding the illegal activities/robbery in band being committed by a group of taxi drivers being headed by its leader identified as alias ‘Darryl’ later identified as Subject Eugenio, together with his cohorts who were identified with their aliases as ‘Bombay,’ ‘Anthony,’ ‘Ramil,’ and other unidentified members of the said organized robbery/holdup group.”
“Investigation and series of intelligence operations conducted by NBI-AOTCD revealed that the robbery group is targeting taxicab passengers who are foreign nationals during wee hours from 12:00 midnight to 4:00 in the morning every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Also, the group is using three taxis in their robbery operation,” it added.
After receiving information that the group of suspected robbers were going to strike again, the NBI said its AOTCD agents proceeded to Malate, Manila where they found the taxi that was identified to be used in their scheme.
