I became friends with TV host-actress Valeen Montenegro because of TV5. (di ko lang sure kung close friends kami ha!) We hosted several shows together. I remember seeing her almost everyday for our tapings. (yung kulang nalang maumay nako sa kanya!) When our contracts ended with the Kapatid network, we went to separate paths. (GMA-7 na sya habang ako pakalat-kalat!)

We would see each other every now and then. (madalas yung biglaan at yung walang plano!) One unforgettable meet up was in a nail salon in 2018. (nagpamanicure sya, nagpa-pedicure ako!) The staff requested for a photo from us to promote their establishment. (para libre na ang pakutkot naming ng kuko!) Valeen and I had a wild idea. (bilang wild naman naman talaga kami!)

FU: (lumuhod sa harap ng Valeen!) ayan kunwari nagpropose, para kita yang kuko mo!

Valeen: ay wait! Nasa bag ko yung singsing na bigay ng lola ko! isuot mo sakin!

FU: akin na para may effect! In fairness sa lola mo ha, on cue!

(Boom! Nagmukhang marriage proposal ang naging pictorial!)

We posted that photo on our respective social media accounts. Some friends and netizens thought it was for real especially that most of them know that Valeen and I have this term of endearment. We call each other “babe.” (akala nila siguro tomboy talaga ako!)

Just recently, Valeen and her boyfriend, director-photographer Riel Manuel posted on social media their engagement. (taray ng production design ha, sa forest!) Valeen’s caption: “Easiest Yes! What seemed to be an ordinary Thursday, unexpectedly turned into my favorite day! Ladies and Gentlemen..my Beyonce!”

I immediately messaged her via chat. (siempre binarubal ko lang sya!)

FU: so bakit????????!!!! hahahahha.

Valeen: hahahaha thank you so much for that wonderful question!

FU: ano ba yan???????!!! hahahaha.

Valeen: hahaha. Eh kung icongratulate mo kaya akoooooo! Hayup ka!

Valeen: Hindi! Joke lang yan!

FU: Hahahaha! My gaaaaaad! Sige na nga, we are happy for the both of you!
