The Department of Justice (DOJ) has suspended the construction of a new building for its library inside its compound in Manila following the discovery of a possible historical site where skeletal remains have been unearthed.
DOJ Secretary Jesus Crispin C. Remulla said the move was made following his meeting on Friday, Nov. 25, with archeologists Tess de Guzman and Michael Canilao.
Remulla said he could not determine yet how long the work stoppage at the construction site would last. “We’ll see. We cannot speculate,” he said.
He said that De Guzman and Canilao will be returning with their equipment to conduct an examination of the excavation site where skeletal remains were found.
“So. we’re looking at this as a probable archeological site. Baka, this might be a war time,” said Remulla who noted that, according to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), skeletal remains of four persons were found.
