ARTablado teams up with Luis Ac-ac for charity show
The show aims to help artists that were displaced by the Covid-19 pandemic
Renowned master carver from Paete, Laguna, Luis Ac-ac, teamed up with ARTablado to form a philanthropic exhibit aimed at helping artists and organizations that were displaced by the pandemic.

Proceeds from the show "Ac-ac Gives Back: Artists para sa mga Artista," which will run until Nov. 30, 2022 at ARTablado in Robinsons Galleria, will go to Diwang Pinoy Organization, Inc., and to Museo Ac-ac’s Jose D. Caancan Memorial Sculpture Competition. The organizations mentioned will utilize the proceeds for educational, artistic, and psycho-social support for the beneficiaries, according to the event organizers.

At the exhibit, Ac-ac also picked the winners of his annual sculpture show—the Jose D. Caancan Memorial Sculpture Competition. Launched in 2020 during the height of the pandemic, the Jose D. Caancan Memorial Sculpture Competition aims to safeguard Paete's age-old wood carving tradition, and encourages the youth to venture into the world of art.
Jose D. Caancan hailed from Paete, and is famous for being one of Rizal’s students during his incarceration in Dapitan. Caancan taught three generation of wood carvers in Paete, and this is the reason why the town is so full of skilled craftsmen. Ac-ac, of course, looks up to the progenitor-sculptor of his beloved Paete.

ARTablado exhibit
Forty works of Ac-ac will be displayed during the two-week show curated by his daughter, Museo Ac-ac President Marygrace Ac-ac of the De La Salle—College of Saint Benilde. The masterpieces shown revolve around the theme of Filipino folk life—Ac-ac's favorite subject.
These Philippine folk-themed works are divided into two sub-themes—“Filipino children at play” and “Pamilyang Pilipino (Filipino family).”

At the exhibit, one can see the mastery of the artist in wood craft. Details are striking, and somehow, though made of wood, the works seem soft, alive, and warm. Images of the idyllic Filipino family are readily seen at the show, as well as sculptures of children at play and people at work.
