Remains of 'middleman' in Percy Lapid slay to be brought back to Leyte Nov. 5 – DOJ

The remains of Jun Globa Villamor, an alleged “middleman” in the killing of radio commentator Percy Lapid, will be brought back to Leyte, his home province, on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 5.

Villamor, a detainee at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City, died last Oct. 18 merely a few hours after self-confessed gunman of Percy Lapid, Joel S. Escorial, was presented to the media.

Hours before Villamor’s death, his sister revealed that he sent text messages to her expressing fears for his life. She said her brother tested names of certain NBP inmates also involved in Percy Lapid killing.

In her autopsy report, noted forensic pathologist Dr. Raquel B. Del Rosario-Fortun stated that “based on available information regarding the circumstances surrounding the death, the manner is homicide.”

Fortun also said: “There is information that he (Villamor) expressed fear for his life shortly before his demise and that he died from suffocation by means of a plastic bag over his head.”

“The autopsy findings showed no gross morphologic cause of death and this is consistent with the reported asphyxia,” the also said.

Aside from Villamor, tagged by Escorial as his accomplices in the Percy Lapid (Percival C. Mabasa) killing were brothers Edmon and Israel Dimaculangan, and a person identified only as “Orly” or “Orlando.” A murder complaint has been filed against them by the Philippine National Police (PNP) before the Department of Justice (DOJ).

The Dimaculangan brothers, however, have neither been arrested nor have surrendered.

DOJ Assistant Secretary Jose Dominic F. Clavano IV confirmed that “the body of Jun Villamor will be transported back to Leyte tomorrow afternoon.”

Earlier, Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin C. Remulla had said that the death of Villamor may also be a murder case similar to that of Percy Lapid’s.

He had also said that on Monday, Nov. 7, other cases will be filed for the death of Percy Lapid and similar criminal complaint will be filed for Villamor’s death.
