Agri damage due to 'Paeng' at P2.24 million—DA's initial report

The agricultural damage caused by Typhoon Paeng is so far pegged at P2.24 million, per the initial assessment of the Department of Agriculture (DA).

Based on the DA’s Bulletin No. 2 on Typhoon Paeng issued on Saturday, Oct. 29, the figure covers damage and losses in Negros Occidental.
It was noted in the report that 252 hectares of rice areas have been devastated by Paeng, affecting 173 farmers.
Meanwhile, the DA said the production loss is so far at 87 metric tons.
To aid affected farmers, the agriculture department has activated DA Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Operation Centers.
The DA said it has also prepositioned seeds for rice and corn, drugs and biologics for livestock and poultry in safe storage facilities.
The agriculture department said it is in constant coordination with government agencies, local government units, and other DRRM-related offices for the impact of Paeng.
