Pile of limestone collapses due to heavy rain, buries house, damages 3 others in Cebu City

CEBU CITY – A house was buried and three others were damaged when a pile of limestone collapsed on Wednesday, Oct. 26, in Barangay Banilad here.

Barangay Banilad Captain Dennes Tabar said the incident happened at around 9 a.m. while Metro Cebu was experiencing heavy rain.

The incident affected at least 16 individuals, Tabar said.

Tabar said the excavated limestone came from an area where a three-story house is being constructed.

Last Monday, the barangay stopped the construction due to the danger it poses.

The rain caused the pile of limestone to soften before it collapsed on the houses.

Fortunately, no one was injured during the incident.

The barangay has already provided the affected families with initial assistance such as rice and canned goods, Tabar said.

“Let us continue to be extra cautious amid the continuous rains that we are experiencing,” said Tabar.
