Sister of dead 'middleman' in Percy Lapid killing placed under Witness Protection Program -- DOJ

The sister of the dead “middleman” or “co-conspirator” in the killing of radio broadcaster Percival Mabasa, better known as Percy Lapid, has been placed under the government’s Witness Protection Program (WPP), the Department of Justice (DOJ) said on Tuesday, Oct. 25.

“So nakita naman na meron ngang risk sa buhay niya so agad naming pinasok sa Witness Protection Program and dinala agad siya doon sa temporary shelter (When we saw that there was risk to her life, we immediately placed her under the WPP and sent her to a temporary shelter),” DOJ Assistant Secretary Jose Dominic F. Clavano IV told journalists.

The woman is the sister of Jun Globa Villamor, an inmate of the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City who has been tagged as the “middleman” who hired the gunman in the murder of Mabasa.

Villamor died while confined at the NBP on the afternoon of Oct. 18 after Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benhur Abalos presented on the morning of the same day self-confessed gunman Joel S. Escorial.

Clavano said Villamor’s sister initially sought the help of Senator Raffy T. Tulfo who brought her to the DOJ on Monday afternoon, Oct. 24.

“At nung pumunta siya dito, nakipag meeting din siya kay Secretary Remulla kung saan binigay niya yung information na meron siya tungkol doon sa kanyang kapatid na pumanaw (When she came here, she met Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin C. Remulla and gave information about her dead brother),” the Clavano said.

“Doon nakita na yung information nga relevant sa kaso natin doon sa pagpatay nung kapatid niya and agad-agad naming tinawag yung witness protection para sila rin ay gumawa ng isang interview doon sa witness natin (From there we saw that the information was relevant in the case of her brother and, because of this, we called witness protection to interview the witness),” he also said.

He pointed out that the interview of the witness was meant to determine the extent of the threat against her.

He said the woman was able to talk to her brother through the Messenger application before he died.

“There were names mentioned, but all these are allegations as of now. So, we have to verify, we have to vet,” Clavano added.
