LOOK: Classic Amorsolo pieces transformed into Lego works of art
The iconic National Artist for Visual Arts is celebrating his 130th birth year as well
Amorsolo and Lego, one would never think those two words would go together, but because of the wonders of art—here we are.

Three “LEGOfied” iconic works of National Artist for Visual Arts Fernando Amorsolo is on exhibit now at Rockwell Center’s Power Plant Mall from Oct. 20 to 28, 2022. Named "Pinoy LUG’s Project Amorsolo," the exhibit was made possible by the Pinoy Lego Users Group (PinoyLUG), a community of Filipino Lego hobbyists.

PinoyLUG, in cooperation with the Fernando C. Amorsolo Art Foundation, Inc., created the exhibit to promote the works of the esteemed National Artist, and to introduce his works to a new generation of art enthusiasts.
It is an interesting concept, to be sure. Seeing the works of the "Grand Old Man of Philippine Art" turned into Lego art gives one a certain appreciation of PinoyLUGs skill, artistry, and patience. Thousands upon thousands of lego blocks are aligned to create a replica of Amorsolo’s visual masterpieces—imagine the time and patience for that. The resulting Lego art pieces uncannily resemble Amorsolo’s works.

"In doing Lego together, everyone is guided by the values the group places on creativity, camaraderie, inclusivity and social responsibility. They are like LEGO interlocking bricks, held tightly together and collectively connected. No brick is too small, or too big. They all represent a structure that looks beautiful, strong, and resilient,” according to the PinoyLUG website.
The exihibit at Power Plant Mall will feature three iconic works by the Filipino master, "lego-lized" by PinoyLUG—"Bayanihan (1959)," "Early Traders (1959)," and "Dalagang Bukid (1958)." PinoyLUG members chose the three works because, according to them, the three pieces by Amorsolo represent Lego’s vision of fostering communities that build and share together.

Pinoy LUG’s "Project Amorsolo" exhibit is indeed timely, as the event also marks the 50th anniversary of Fernando Amorsolo’s recognition as a national artist. This year also marks the 130th year after his birth.
