The Metro Manila Council (MMC) has approved the implementation of a temporary truck ban along Roxas Boulevard in a bid to ease traffic congestion amid the ongoing construction in the area.
In a statement, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) acting chairman Carlo Dimayuga III said the temporary truck ban was seen as a solution of Metro Manila mayors especially that workers for the Department of Public Works and Highways are busy with a project specifically in front of the US Embassy.
The MMC is composed of Metro Manila mayors and usually convenes for policy-making.
On the part of the MMDA, Dimayuga said they already issued a resolution which states that trucks and trailers, with gross capacity weight of more than 4,500 kilograms, are temporarily prohibited from plying Roxas Boulevard in Manila.
"This is to avoid deterioration and shall instead utilize the original truck routes from SLEX(South Luzon Expressway) to Osmeña Highway to President Quirino Avenue or from Port Area to SLEX," said Dimayuga.
Here is the alternative route for trucks covered by the ban:
From SLEX to Port Area:
From South Luzon Expressway straight to Osmeña Highway to Pres. Quirino Avenue, turn left to Plaza Dilao towards Pres. Quirino Ext., left at U.N Avenue, turn right to Romualdez, turn left to Ayala Avenue/P. Burgos Avenue, then turn right to Bonifacio Drive to destination.
From Port Area to SLEX
From Bonifacio Drive, turn left to P. Burgos/Ayala Blvd. then turn right to San Marcelino, turn left to Pres. Quirino Avenue then right turn to Pres. Osmeña highway to SLEX.
Meanwhile, Dimayuga also said that the agency will implement a moratorium on road diggings, except for the government’s flagship projects, from Nov. 14 until Jan. 2, as part of the MMDA’s traffic mitigation measures for the holidays.
