Comelec eyes resumption of voter registration by late November

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is looking to resume its voter registration by the last week of November, Comelec Spokesman John Rex Laudiangco said on Tuesday, Oct. 11.

In an interview on the Laging Handa public briefing, Laudiangco said that they are just currently waiting for the enrolled bill on the postponement of Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) to be signed by the President.
"Kasi po kapag ito po ay naging batas na, hihinto na po ang Comelec sa pagpapatupad ng mga preparasyon, pupunta naman po kami sa isang phase kung saan ang focus na namin ay registration of voters (Because of this becomes a law, Comelec will stop in its preparations, and will focus on another thing which is the registration of voters)," he said.
Laudiangco said that they believe that the President may sign the enrolled bill this month.
Comelec recently announced that it is set to pilot test its "register anywhere" voter registration system in select partner malls in the National Capital Region (NCR) wherein satellite/offsite registrations are being conducted.
Laudiangco said that the “Register Anywhere” system will provide registrants the convenience of registering in a mall of their choice (during the pilot test, within the NCR) where an offsite or satellite registration is being held, even if the said mall is located in a city or municipality other than their city or municipality of their residence.
He said that this system is important because it maximizes the number of potential registrants. Through this, since it's nearer and more convenient, Laudiangco mentioned that people will no longer have any reason not to register and vote during the elections.
