CEBU CITY – This city will deploy personnel called ‘’River Rangers’’ to ensure cleanliness in major rivers and other waterways here.

The creation of the River Rangers is part of this city’s massive river clean-up spearheaded by former Environment and Natural Resources Secretary Roy Cimatu.
Raquel Arce, chief of the Prevention, Restoration, Order, Beautification, and Enhancement (PROBE) office, said the River Rangers will come from barangay emergency response teams here.
Arce said there are at least 800 barangay emergency responders from 80 barangays in Cebu City.
Those tapped to be River Rangers will undergo training and will be authorized to issue citation tickets once they are dispatched.
“They will be tasked to monitor the condition of rivers and watch for people who are making these dirty,” Arce said in a press briefing on Monday, Oct. 10.
The massive river clean-up is part of Mayor Michael Rama’s vision for a “Singapore-like Cebu City.”
Rama has launched Task Force Disiplina to ensure cleanliness here.
In the past few weeks, several persons have been penalized for littering and smoking in public places.
Arce said ensuring cleanliness in the seven major rivers here is part of Task Force Disiplina.
