A man allegedly engaged in gun-running activities has been arrested by agents of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) during an entrapment operation in San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan.
The NBI identified the suspect as Michael F. Perlas who was arrested last Oct. 3.
“When Subject Perlas showed his possession of the firearms, NBI’s National Capital Region (NBI-NCR) operatives approached Subject Perlas and introduced themselves as Agents of the NBI and placed Subject Perlas under arrest,” the NBI said.
It said that seized from Perlas were a 5.56 caliber Remington rifle, two 5.56 caliber Colt rifles, a 45 caliber Remington pistol, and a 357 caliber Taurus revolver.
“Subject Michaell Perlas y Feting was presented for inquest proceedings before the Office of the City Prosecutor of San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan for violation of Section 32 ‘Unlawful Sale/Disposition of Firearms’ of Republic Act 10591, known as ‘Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Act,’” the NBI said.
It said the NBI acted on an information received by NBI-NCR that “Subject Michaell Perlas is engaged in selling unlicensed firearms to Protective Agents.”
During the investigation, NBI-NCR was able to verify from the Philippine National Police – Firearms and Explosives Office (PNP-FEO) that Perlas has “no record of License to Own and Possess Firearms (LTOPF) nor was he an authorized manufacturer, dealer or engaged in business of buying and selling ammunition, firearms or parts for sale or distribution.”
It recalled that NBI-NCR agents acting as poseur-buyers also previously approached Perlas last Sept. 29.
“Subject Perlas offered the Agents three (3) 5.56 caliber rifles, one (1) 45 caliber pistol and one (1) .357 caliber revolver for the total amount of Three Hundred Forty Thousand Pesos (P340,000),” it said.
