Filipinos can’t deny our love for coffee or a refreshing beverage, steaming or over ice, to keep our day going. And among the big coffee chains, Starbucks has served Filipinos and the entire world an exquisite selection of coffee, drinks, and delectables for over a decade.
As the company marks its 25th anniversary in the country, it reaffirms its commitment to positively impacting the wellbeing of everyone who has interacted with the business.
It’s more than a brand but a corporation with a vital mission. Starbucks Philippines is the first in Southeast Asia to pilot the Starbucks FoodShare food donation program, responsible for distributing donations to communities in need of food assistance within Metro Manila and partnering with Gawad Kalinga’s Kusina ng Kalinga, a food donation program aiming to bring children back to proper nutrition within 95 days.
Much of the transformative work on our fight against hunger is possible because of the support of The Starbucks Foundation and dedication of our community impact partners
To this end, by supporting hunger relief in the country, it has expanded the scope of its relation with Grab, the Philippine Foodbank Foundation, and Gawad Kalinga in the fight against the pervasive hunger that local communities and children face.
Starbucks Philippines will donate $25,000 to the Philippine FoodBank Foundation and another $25,000 to Gawad Kalinga as part of the company’s commitment to building a more sustainable future in the market and in support of the global initiative to improve the wellbeing of one billion people by 2030, according to group president of Starbucks International and Channel Development Michael Conway, and president of Starbucks Philippines Noey Lopez.
The donations will help in the concentration of growth of the current Starbucks FoodShare and Gawad Kalinga’s Kusina ng Kalinga feeding programs.
“Much of the transformative work on our fight against hunger is possible because of the support of The Starbucks Foundation and dedication of our community impact partners,” says Noey Lopez, president of Starbucks Philippines.
As part of its 25th anniversary in the Philippines, the company is looking forward to expanding its social impact programs and reaching more communities to achieve lasting change through social action. Lopez is grateful to the organizations that assisted in putting the hunger relief programs into action. —Aj Sison
