Robredo 'humbled' by ex-FVR Cabinet members' support for her presidential bid

Aspiring president Vice President Leni Robredo said Thursday, Jan. 13, that she is "humbled" by the support given to her by former Cabinet members and senior officials who served during the term of former President Fidel V. Ramos.

Robredo took to Twitter her gratitude to the declaration of support of 23 former Cabinet secretaries and senior executives of the Ramos administration for her presidential candidacy, saying she is humbled to receive support from leaders she look up to.

"Humbled by the support of Cabinet members and senior officials of the Ramos administration. I look up to the leadership that FVR espoused, which I believe was affirmed by the brilliant people who served alongside him—matitino at mahuhusay (decent and outstanding)," the Vice President said.

The former Cabinet members, in a statement, expressed that the leadership qualities that they directly witnessed President Ramos espouse and exemplify are what they seek in the next President of the Philippines.

They said they believe that Robredo is "the only presidential candidate" who possesses the qualities they seek and "who can credibly lead us Filipinos closer towards that dream."

The aspiring President said she is honored by the faith the former public officials is giving her as she called them one of the best pool of Cabinet secretaries in recent years.

"Marami po ang nagsasabi na (Many are saying that) FVR had one of the best pool of Cabinet secretaries in recent years. Honored by the faith you have placed upon me, Sirs and Ma’ams. Makakaasa po kayo na lagi kong sisikapin (You can count on me to work hard) to be worthy of the trust that you and our fellow Filipinos have given me," she said.

In talking about forming her Cabinet if she wins the presidency, Robredo mentioned that she wants her pool of Cabinet secretaries to be united like how Ramos' Cabinet was during his term.

"Yung nakita kong naging very successful in, halimbawa, example lang ito, naging very successful in, yung pagpapakita ng unity sa Cabinet si President FVR (The one I saw being very successful in having unity in the Cabinet is that of President FVR). Si President FVR naalala ko (I remember, President FVR) put a lot of premium on yung (the) harmony within the Cabinet," Robredo said in one of her interviews on Jan. 12.
