About 37,000 of the 48,991 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) in the seven prison facilities of the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) have received booster shots against Covid-19.

BuCor said that PDLs at the Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm (IPPF) in Puerto Princesa City were the latest to receive booster shots.

“The Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) at Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm (IPPF) received their second booster shots against COVID-19 under the ‘PinasLakas’ vaccination campaign last Sept. 13 to 15, 2022,” it said.

“The three-day vaccination program was conducted by the Local Vaccination Operation Team of Puerto Princesa City Government with the assistance of the IPPF Medical Section, headed by CTCInsp. Ruth B. Algones, MD, and it was made possible through the initiative and coordination of the IPPF Acting Superintendent, CSupt. Joel R. Calvelo with the City Health Office headed by Dr, Ricardo B. Panganiban, MD, RN, RMT, City Health Officer,” it also said.

“The administration of booster shots to PDLs was done to decrease their risk of infection and to maintain their strong protection against the deadly and infectious coronavirus disease,” it added.
