The Davao del Norte State College (DNSC) has agreed to provide training to the soon-to-be-released persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) at the Davao Prison and Penal Farm (DPPF).

The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) said a memorandum of agreement (MOA) was signed last Sept. 16 between DPPF Chief CTSSupt. Albert C. Manalo and DNSC President Dr. Joy M. Sorrosa.

“This initiative is under the Pre-release Reintegration Program of the Bureau of Corrections, a reformation program institutionalized under the administration of Director General Gerald Q. Bantag,” the BuCor said.

“This aims to provide interventions through skills development by providing access to training of PDLs in order to uplift their economic status and facilitate reintegration to their respective communities,” it explained.

Under the MOA, the BuCor said “DNSC will provide personality development training inputs to said PDLs and technical inputs on entrepreneurship, small-scale enterprise development and financial literacy.”

“In exchange, DPPF will provide social work interns of DNSC with work assignments that will enhance their knowledge and competency in the field of social work,” it said.

DPPF has 6,412 PDLs in its custody. Last Sept. 13. BuCor released 371 inmates from its prison facilities, including 45 PDLs from DPPF.
