Tulfo visits 'Karding'-hit Aurora, Quezon, provides cash assistance to families


An estimated 1,175 typhoon Karding devastated families from Jomalig and Patnangunan, Quezon, and Dingalan, Aurora received P5,000 and P10,000 cash assistance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) on Monday, Sept. 26.

This aid distribution was held during DSWD Secretary Erwin Tulfo, Undersecretary for Disaster Response Management Group Marco M. Bautista, and Undersecretary for Operations Group Jerico Francis L. Javier's visit to the said municipalities to assess the extent of the damage left by the typhoon.

As per the agency, P5,000 cash assistance was dispensed to 475 families in Dingalan, Aurora.

DSWD-Field Office III also distributed 2,000 family food packs and 618 bottled water as augmentation support to the local government of Dingalan.

Moreover, DSWD reported at least 400 typhoon Karding distraught families in Jomalig and over 300 affected families in Patnanungan, Quezon.

Seventy houses in Patnanungan were totally damaged while 72 were partially destroyed, the agency added.

"Secretary Tulfo led the provision of financial assistance worth P5,000 to each household with partially-damaged houses and P10,000 each for households with totally-damaged houses in both island towns," DSWD said.

"Currently, the Department has already provided more than P1.4 million worth of augmentation assistance to affected areas in Regions II, III, and V," DSWD added.

As of 6 p.m., DSWD has over P1.1 billion worth of standby and stockpile funds for relief operations under its Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations program.

From this amount, over P186 million is at the DSWD Central Office and Field Offices, it said.

There are also 78,485 family food packs stored and ready to be distributed from the DSWD National Resource Operations Center and the Visayas Disaster Resource Center.

Also, 248,032 family food packs are on standby at DSWD Field Offices in regions I, II, III, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, V, National Capital Region, and Cordillera Administrative Region.

The department noted that it is continually reminding the affected individuals to follow the instructions of their respective local executives to ensure their safety despite the better weather condition and before returning to their homes.
