BSKE ballots to have additional security feature

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) said the ballots that will be printed for the December 2022 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan polls will have serial numbers as an additional security feature.

"The ballots will have a serial number...Just like in our banknotes. This is a security feature. From small to bigger numbers, that will be an additional security feature. Nobody can just make these ballots," Comelec Chairman George Garcia said in a press briefing after the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement with the National Printing Office in Quezon City, Tuesday, Sept. 20.

"In printing, it is really impossible to have ascending number similar to our money. Only the NPO can print numbers like this and the Bangko Sentral. That is how secure these ballots that we will be using for the BSKE," he added.

Asked if the said security feature will be for the Dec. 5 poll exercise only, Garcia said:"We will be using this only for the BSKE so that we can test them."

The poll body is set to start the printing of the more than 90 million ballots for BSKE this week.
