Marcos appoints Layug as DA asec, 2 new GCG members


President Marcos has named former Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) official James A. Layug as assistant secretary of the Department of Agriculture (DA), Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles announced, Thursday, Sept. 15.

“Mr. James Layug, formerly with the DICT, is named Assistant Secretary of the Department of Agriculture,” she said.

Layug, who served as DICT’s Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center executive director, will be replacing Federico Laciste Jr.

According to Angeles, the chief executive has also appointed Geraldine Marie Berberabe-Martinez and Gideon D. Mortel as members of the Governance Commission for Government-Owned or Controlled Corporations (GCG).

Martinez and Mortel will take the place of outgoing GOCC commissioners Michael Cloribel and Marites Doral.

Martinez previously served on the Board of Trustees of the Government Service Insurance System.

The GCG consists of three appointive members and two ex-officio members: the Department of Finance secretary and the Department of Budget and Management secretary
