CEBU CITY – Mayor Michael Rama here will fly to Manila to lure in more investors in a move that he described as “investment-begging.”’
The second round of investment begging was announced by Rama during the traditional Monday flag-raising ceremony on Monday, Sept. 12, at the City Hall grounds.
“Ugma (Tuesday, Sept. 13), manglimos nasad mi. Ikaduha ni nga time nga manglimos mi (Tomorrow, will beg again. It will be the second time that we will be begging),” Rama told City Hall workers.
While he is away, Rama tasked his executive secretary, lawyer Collin Rosell, and City Administrator Suzanne Ardosa, to oversee the city government’s operations.
Rama said he will also see President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. who will celebrate his birthday on Tuesday, Sept. 13.
Aside from attracting possible investors, Rama said he is hoping that he would be able to get help from the President.
Rama’s first round of investment begging in Manila happened last month where he sought help from businessmen to help realize his vision of transforming the Cebu into a “Singapore-like” city.
In his first trip to Manila, Rama was able to convince tycoon Manny V. Pangilinan to fund one floor of the Cebu City Medical Center.
The Cebu City mayor had announced that the first round of investment-begging yielded P1.38 billion in pledges that would include the construction of medium-rise buildings.
