Comelec reports high voter turnout during Calaca plebiscite


The Commission on Elections (Comelec) said the Sept. 3 Calaca plebiscite had a very high voter turnout.

Despite the stormy weather brought by Super Typhoon Henry (Hinnamnor), Comelec Acting Spokesperson John Rex Laudiangco said, the plebiscite had a very high turn-out of 56.39 percent or 33,205 out of the 58,881 total registered voters.

The poll body reported that the citizens of Calaca, Batangas voted on Sept. 3, 2022 to ratify the conversion of their Municipality into a Component City of the Province of Batangas.

In a statement, Laudiangco said the plebiscite resulted to 29,424 “YESes” against the 3,781 “NOs."

"The Comelec congratulates the Citizens of the new City of Calaca for their successful ratification of R.A. No. 11544," he said.

Laudiangco said Comelec Chairman George Garcia and the whole Commission en banc also congratulate Plebiscite Commissioner-in-Charge Comm. Aimee P. Ferolino, together with the officers and employees the Calaca Office of the Election Officer, the Office of the Provincial Election Supervisor of Batangas, and the Offices of the Executive Director and the Deputy Executive Director for Operations for "successfully holding the Plebiscite, without any delay, untoward incident or election violence."

"Indeed, this is a much welcome follow-up to the success of the Filipino people and the Comelec in the recently concluded May 9, 2022 National and Local Elections," he said.
