Man charged with rape of 10-year-old girl arrested in Manila after 7 years in hiding

A man charged in court with rape of a 10-year-old girl seven years ago has been arrested in Manila by agents of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).
In a statement, the NBI identified the alleged rapist as Rafael L. Lim who was arrested last Friday, Aug. 26, at a condominium unit in Sta. Cruz, Manila.
It said the NBI’s Special Operations Group (NBI-SOG) served an alias warrant of arrest against Lim who was charged with statutory rape and four counts of violating Section 5(b) of Republic Act No. 7610, the Child Abuse Law.
“A series of casing and surveillance operations conducted by the NBI-SOG led to the discovery of the hiding place of the subject after seven (7) years of avoiding the long arm of the law,” the bureau said.
It said the operation “stemmed from a letter sent by the mother of the victim requesting assistance in the service of the Alias Warrant of Arrest against Subject Lim.”
“Through proper channels, the case was assigned to NBI-SOG,” it noted.
“Immediately, NBI-SOG operatives verified with the issuing court the validity of the said Warrant and it was confirmed that it is still in effect,” it said. The operation was immediately conducted, it added.
