Are BuCor's lands nationwide for sale?

The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) has warned the public not to fall prey to scammers who are offering to sell its lands in its seven prison facilities nationwide.

“Ang kalupaan ng Bureau of Corrections ay kailanma’y hindi ipinagbibili, huwag magpaloko sa mga sindikato (BuCor lands will never be for sale, don’t be fooled by syndicates),” Bucor said in a statement issued last Thursday, Aug. 25.

“Maging alisto sa mga sindikatong nagbebenta at nanghihikayat na bumili ng lupain na nasasakupan ng BuCor (Be on alert against syndicates that are selling and encouraging the public to buy lands occupied by the BuCor),” it warned.

It said the public should report immediately any offer so sell its lands.

“Kung sinoman ang nagkakaroon ng transaksyon ukol dito, ipagbigay alam sa numerong ito -- (02) 8230-946 5 (Whoever are engaged in such transactions, report it to this number),” it said.

Last February, BuCor issued a similar warning to the public on reports that the units in its housing program for its personnel are for sale.

“Our existing housing program is for our active employees and not open to the public,” BuCor Deputy Director General Gabriel P. Chaclag had said.

“No sale is involved,” he said.

BuCor, an agency under the Department of Justice (DOJ), manages seven prison and penal farms in the country.

These are the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City; the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) in Mandaluyong City; the Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan; the Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm in Occidental Mindoro; the San Ramon Prison and Penal Farm in Zamboanga City; the Leyte Regional Prison in Abuyog, Leyte; and the Davao Prison and Penal Farm in Panabo, Davao Province.
