Remulla nominates 2 lawyers to head BI, LRA

Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin 'Boying' C. Remulla

Two lawyers have been recommended to President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. to head the Bureau of Immigration (BI) and the Land Registration Authority (LRA), Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Jesus Crispin C. Remulla said on Wednesday, Aug. 24.

“I nominated Atty. Joel Viado for immigration, Atty. Gerry Sirios for land registration,” Remulla said during the Kapihan sa Manila Bay forum.

He said his nominations were for “two very important offices that we have to fix.”

Both the BI and LRA are DOJ-attached agencies.

Remulla said both Viado and Sirios are lawyers in his staff. Viado finished his law degree at the University of the Philippines while Sirios is a University of Perpetual Help graduate.

He said he has been waiting for President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s approval of his nominations.

He also said “may mga office ako na hindi pa naa-appoint yung mga tao (I have offices where there have been no appointments made),” he said.

“May nominees na ako matagal na even before being sworn into office. Kumpleto ako sa nominees ko (I have nominees that I have submitted long before I got sworn into office. I have already completed my list),” Remulla disclosed.

Last month, Remulla had designated BI Immigration Regulation Division Chief Rogelio D. Gevero, Jr. as the bureau’s officer-in-charge.

Based on its website, the LRA is headed by Administrator Renato D. Bermejo.
