Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin C. Remulla has appointed lawyer Jose Dominic F. Clavano IV as spokesperson of the Department of Justice (DOJ).

In Department Order No. 385 dated Aug. 15, 2022, Remulla said:

“In the interest of the service and pursuant to the provisions of existing laws, rules and regulations, Atty. Jose Dominic F. Clavano IV is hereby designated as Official Spokesperson of this Department, in addition to his present tasks and responsibilities.

“As such, Atty. Clavano shall be authorized to make public statements and issue press releases on behalf of the Secretary of Justice on all matters concerning the activities of this Department in reference to its area of jurisdiction and mandate, without prejudice to the prerogative of the Secretary of Justice to speak on behalf of the Department as and when he deems it necessary.”

Clavano succeeded former DOJ Assistant Secretary Neal Bainto as spokesperson. Before Bainto, the spokesperson was then DOJ Undersecretary Emmeline Aglipay-Villar who resigned to support the candidacy of her husband Sen. Mark Villar.

Clavano, who is born on March 9, 1991, was the second nominee of the Bisaya Gyud party-list which failed to win in the last May 9 elections.

He obtained his law degree from the Ateneo de Manila University’s Law School and passed the 2018 bar examinations.

He joined the government in 2019 as associate solicitor at the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG), the government’s law firm.
