A 59-year-old man from Tubo, Abra was the latest addition to the list of individuals that have died due to the magnitude 7.0 earthquake that rocked the province more than a week ago, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported Friday, August 5.
The NDRRMC identified the fatality as Dario Lacaden, from Barangay Wayangan. He died from brain injury after he was hit by a collapsed roofing made of bamboo with sack of soil at the height of the earthquake.
Lacaden brought the death toll to 11, and his death was already validated by the NDRRMC.
The NDRRMC added that 410 individuals from the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), Ilocos (Region 1), and Cagayan Valley (Region 2) were also injured due to the earthquake.
A total of 119,730 families or 448,990 individuals were affected by the temblor which has also dealt at least P33.23 million worth of agricultural losses and P1.34 billion worth of damages to infrastructure.
So far, 745 families or 2,395 individuals were still staying in 21 evacuation centers across the affected regions.
Meanwhile, the NDRRMC has provided a total of P100,849,468.53 worth of assistance to the affected individuals which include family food packs, family tents, cash assistance, laminated sacks, other non-food items, and aid from the local government units.
