Yumol was charged with three counts of murder under the Revised Penal Code (RPC) in relation to Section 29 of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition; one count of frustrated murder under the RPC in relation to RA 10591; one count of violation of Section 3 of RA 10883 or the Anti-Carnapping Law; one count for violation of Section 31 of RA 10591; and one count of malicious mischief.
Murder is a non-bailable offense.
The Quezon City regional trial court (RTC) is expected to start the proceedings on the cases with the arraignment of Yumol within this week.
Killed during the incident, which coincided with the commencement exercises of ADMU law graduates, were former Mayor Rosita Furigay of the City of Lamitan in Basilan, her aide Victor Capistano, and university security guard Jeneven Bandiala.
Injured and hospitalized was Furigay’s daughter, Hannah, who was at ADMU with her mother to attend the graduation ceremonies.
Chief Justice Alexander G. Gesmundo, who was to be the guest speaker during the commencement exercises, was advised not to proceed to ADMU when the incident broke out.
Yumol was arrested by the police immediately after the incident. He is now detained at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in Quezon City.
