GMA leads handful of new House deputy speakers


Pampanga 2nd district Rep. and former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has been elected as senior deputy speaker in the 19th Congress, while five other lawmakers were elected as deputy speakers.

Arroyo was designated to the position although she was not physically present during the maiden session of the 19th Congress on account of her getting infected with Covid-19.

Five other lawmakers were nominated as deputy speakers of the 19th Congress, namely: Davao City 3rd district Rep. Isidro Ungab; Antipolo 1st district Rep. Roberto Puno; Las Pinas lone district Rep. Camille Villar; Ilocos Sur 2nd district Rep. Kristine Singson-Meehan; and TUCP Party-list Rep. Raymond Mendoza.

Meanwhile, Zamboanga City 2nd district Rep. Manuel Jose Dalipe was nominated as House majority floor leader by Cavite 2nd district Rep. Lani Mercado-Revilla. Dalipe would later secure the position.

Dalipe belongs the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD), the party headed by the newly-installed House Speaker Martin Romualdez.

Romualdez was elected to the top position in the chamber during the same session.
