Criminal charges have been filed before the Department of Justice (DOJ) against a person who posed as agent of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and poked a gun at a motorist during a traffic altercation in Meycauayan City in Bulacan last May 8.

Charged was Ramil B. Diez in a complaint filed last July 15, said the NBI in a statement.

Diez was charged with violation of Article 177 (Usurpation of Authority) of the Revised Penal Code (RPC), as amended; violation of Article 282 (Grave Threats) of the RPC, as amended; Article 286 (Grave Coercion) of the RPC, as amended; and violation of Batas Pambansa Bilang 881 (Omnibus Election Code) in relation to Commission on Elections (Comelec) Resolution No. 10728 (Illegal Possession of Firearm during Election Gun Ban), it said.

The video showing Diez pointing a gun at a motorist went viral in social media. The NBI conducted a probe.

The NBI said that “verification with the Bureau’s Personnel Division revealed that Subject Ramil B. Diez is not an employee of the NBI.”

Also, it said that a check with the Philippine National Police-Firearms and Explosives Office (PNP-FEO) showed that “Subject Diez is a registered owner of ten (10) firearms of different kinds of caliber but has not been issued a Permit to Carry Firearms Outside of Residence (PTCFOR) for any type of firearm.”

“Subject Diez has not applied for nor was granted a Certificate of Authority to Bear, Carry or Transport Firearms or Other Deadly Weapons during Election Period,” the NBI also said.
