Seventy-four persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) have been transferred from the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City to the Leyte Regional Prison (LRP) in Abuyog, Leyte as part of the Bureau of Corrections’ (BuCor) efforts to decongest jails.

In a statement, the LRP said it has placed in its custody the 74 PDLs who would be taught agricultural skills available in prison and penal farms.

LRP Acting Superintendent C/Supt. has assured that the PDLs turnover by the NBP were safe, secured and all accounted for.

It said the 74 PDLs were transported aboard two BuCor buses that were escorted by C/SInsp. Israel Basi of the BuCor national headquarters.

Earlier, BuCor said that 87 PDLs from the NBP and the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) in Mandaluyong City were transferred to the San Ramon Prison and Penal Farm (SRPPF) in Zamboanga City and to the CIW at the Davao Prison and Penal Farm in Davao del Norte.
