Incoming Solicitor General Guevarra meets with OSG's transition team

Outgoing Justice Secretary Menardo I. Guevarra, who had accepted his new post in government as solicitor general, has met with officials of the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) during a transition meeting.

“Yesterday (June 22) the OSG transition team gave me an overview of the organization and operations of the office,” Guevarra said.

He said the OSG’s team briefed him “on the handling of special cases of national importance.”

“Lastly, we discussed matters that need immediate attention, such as the structural problems of the OSG building, the need to create additional legal divisions, and amendments to the OSG law to include retirement and survivorship benefits for state solicitors like those enjoyed by their judicial counterparts,” he said.

Guevarra was picked by President-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos Jr. as the replacement for Solicitor General Jose C. Calida.

“The SOJ (secretary of justice) is very high-profile and has more administrative work, supervising many attached agencies,” Guevarra previously stated.

“The Solgen position, I thought, better suited me because I had been in law firm practice for 25 years,” he said.
