Fête de la Musique or World Music Day is an annual event that happens in the month of June.
Well, June 21 to be exact.
Originally established in France in 1982, the event is now celebrated in over 120 countries worldwide.
Including these shores, of course.
But like most, the pandemic rendered the celebration moot.
Until now, that is.
Yes, folks. Fête de la Musique is back.
It kicks off today, June 21, in Aurora and Baler, both in Quezon with simultaneous events happening in Siargao.
On June 24, more shows will be staged in Manila.
One of them is at The Offshore Music Stage set at the Spanish and Italian style bar and restaurant, La Collina.
Offshore Music, the record company headed by Ely Buendia (with his partners Pat Sarabia and Derrick Villarino), will feature their label’s eclectic roster: Ena Mori, Extrapolation, Pinkmen, Sulo, Pamphleteer, Eliza Marie, Ian Penn, Toni Panagu and Buendia’s own Apartel.
Guests Nobody Home is also set to join in the festivities as Jamie Wilson hosts.
The Makati Pocket Stages also has a “Blue Soul Funk Stage” (with Rice Lucido, Jensen & The Flips, The Espasouls, among others), “Boom Bap Stage” (Badkiss, Marvelous, Jia The Menace), “KONNEKT: Techno Stage” (Deutsch, John Odin, Hoest, Deuce), “Mount Zion Stage,” “Fusion Stage,” “Cabrones,” “New Wave Stage,” “Discoteca Stage,” “Punk,” “Nu Metal,” and even an “80’s All Vinyl Stage” (with an all-vinyl set from Cocoy Puyat) to reflect the deep and varied musical styles that the music festivities feature.
Fête de la Musique takes the party to the Puerto Real Gardens in Intramuros on June 25. Featured artists include: The Cheats, Itchyworms, Lola Amour, Anima Tierra, Brass Pas Pas Pas feat. Curtismith, Toni b., Faye Yupano and Zsaris.
The fun continues in Cebu City on June 25 and 26, Pampanga and Baguio City on June 26, and in El Nido, Palawan on the 26th and 28th.
Fête de la Musique’s 2022 title is “Tara Allez” which combines Tagalog and French words that loosely translates to “Let’s Go.”
