Kontra Daya to Guanzon: Reconsider substitution bid

Kontra Daya has expressed hope that retired Commission on Elections (Comelec) commissioner Rowena Guanzon will reconsider her decision to be the first nominee of the party-list group Komunidad ng Pamilya Pasyente at Persons with Disabilities (P3PWD) as this might be perceived as improper.

"Guanzon should seriously reconsider. This might be perceived as improper given that she is a former Comelec commissioner," Kontra Daya convenor Danilo Arao said in an interview.

"Preparations for the 2022 party-list election happened during her term," he added.

Arao said the withdrawal of all five nominees so that she can be first nominee also sets a "dangerous precedent" for future winners of the party-list race.

"We do not want placeholders as nominees who will just withdraw beyond the deadline," he said.

The P3PWD Party List submitted their new set of nominees to the Comelec on Tuesday, June 14.

Based on the information provided by the poll body, the notarized Certificate of Nomination of P3PWD signed by Secretary General Donnabel C. Tenorio, listed as its new nominees in the following order the following: Ma. Rowena Amelia V. Guanzon, Rosalie J. Garcia, Cherrie B. Belmonte-Lim, Donnabel C. Tenorio, and Rodolfo B. Villar Jr.

The group also filed before the Comelec Law Department the notarized resignation letters of its previous nominees Grace S. Yeneza, Ira Paulo A. Pozon, Marianne Heidi C. Fullon, Peter Jonas R. David, and Lily Grace A. Tiangco.

P3PWD won one of the 63 party-list seats in the House of Representatives in the last May 9 polls.
