The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) has started moves to set up its own Philippine Corrections Academy (PCA) which will conduct continuing training and education for all its personnel.

BuCor Director General Gerald Q. Bantag said a working group, led by Acting Director for Administration CT/CSupt. John Paul O. Santos, has been formed to work out the details of the PCA.

With Santos’ group are C/Supt. Robert A. Veneracion, the acting chief of Bucor’s training division, and his deputy C/CInsp. Lucio C. Guevarra, Bantag said. “They are the key officials who are playing vital roles particularly in the creation of the curriculum for the PCA,” he added.

Bantag said Santos met last May 30 with Dr. Marilyn L Baysa, chief of the Research and Academic Division of the National Jail Management Penology Training Institute (NJMPTI).

“Dr. Baysa, being one of the brains in the creation of Philippine Public Safety College (PPSC), is one of the key advisers who will guide in the overall design of the Corrections Academy,” he said.

“PPSC is the premier educational institution for the training, human resource development and continuing education of all personnel of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) and Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP),” he added.

Bantag expressed hope that “Dr. Baysa’s expertise and management experiences will contribute to the actualization of the BuCor’s future academy.”
