The #MarcosCabinet: Erwin Tulfo, DSWD Secretary


Broadcaster Erwin Tulfo, on Monday, May 30, was nominated to man the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) within the Cabinet President-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.

Presidential Communications Operations Office Chief nominee Trixie-Cruz Angeles bared during a press conference that Tulfo had already accepted the offer.

She clarified that he, alongside other Cabinet picks announced on the same day, were chosen “for their experience in public service and proven service records.”

Tulfo, 57, is mostly known as a news anchor and broadcaster; he has worked on programs such as PTV’s Ulat Bayan, Tutok Tulfo, and T3: Kapatid Sagot Kita!, and Aksyon.

The broadcaster also issued a statement the day his Cabinet post was announced.

“Alam ko na maraming trabaho ang naghihintay sa DSWD. Ang tanging maipapangako ko lamang ay sisikapin ko na matugunan ang mga pangangailangan ng ating mga kababayang mahihirap at nangangailangan (I know there are a lot of work waiting at the DSWD. The only thing I can promise is, I will strive to address the needs of our people who are poor and needy),” he said on May 30.

Tulfo comes from a family of broadcasters and media personalities.

His brother, Raffy Tulfo, is a notable broadcaster who will serve as a Senator in the 19th Congress of the Philippines after placing 3rd in the Senate elections with about 23 million votes.

His sister, Wanda Tulfo Teo, former served as the Department of Tourism Secretary from 2016 to 2018.

As DSWD Secretary, Tulfo will lead the executive branch in protecting and developing the rights and social welfare of the Filipino people.
