Comelec eyes complete proclamation of all winning PL groups this week

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is eyeing to proclaim all the winning party-lists in the May 9 polls this week.

"We are looking at either May 26 or 27 for the proclamation. Remember the special polls in Tubaran will end at 7 p.m. later and the results from these precincts would have to be transmitted and canvassed," Comelec Acting Spokesperson John Rex Laudiangco said in a press briefing Tuesday, May 24.

He said they expect to receive the certificates of canvass from Lanao del Sur on Wednesday and then the National Board of Canvassers will canvass it.

"The supervisory and oversight comittee together with the control group, audit, tabulation...will be computing and applying the party-list formula laid down by the Supreme Court. An NBOC resolution will be promulgated specifically for that," said Laudiangco.

"We are really gunning for proclaiming the 63 seats with the hope that the remaining 1,991 voters in Shanghai will no longer have an effect and that the result of Lanao del Sur will be sufficient for us to complete not only the 63 seats but also determine also their standing," he added.

Last week, the poll body decided to forego the plan to partially proclaim the winning party-lists in the May 9 polls in view of the special polls in Tubaran which was held Tuesday, May 24.

The Comelec conducted special polls in the 12 barangays in Tubaran, Lanao del Sur after declaring a failure of elections there on May 11 due to violence, threats and intimidation.
