21 PDLs freed from 2 BuCor facilities

Two prison facilities of the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) released 21 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs), most of whom had been acquitted of their criminal charges or had completed their jail terms.

The New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City said that last May 18 a total of 11 PDLs was released from its minimum-security compound.

The Davao Prison and Penal Farm (DPPF) in Davao del Norte, on the other hand, said 10 PDLs were freed last May 17.

Aside from having served their jail terms or had been acquitted, BuCor said that several PDLs were also freed because of the credits they earned through the law on good conduct time allowance (GCTA).

The GCTA law shortens the period of a prisoner’s jail term for good conduct during confinement.

From May 1 to May 11, BuCor said its prison facilities had released a total of 232 PDLs.

The release of qualified PDLs contributed to the efforts of BuCor to decongest its prison facilities nationwide, it said.
