Two persons have been arrested in Taguig City for allegedly duping a woman who reportedly shelled out P6 million for a dubious food supply contact for personnel of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Camp Crame, Quezon City.
The NBI identified those arrested last April 27 as Felix LIm and Filence Carla Lam, also known as “Carla Lam.” The two suspects have been charged before Taguig City Prosecutor’s Office with estafa through falsification of documents.
They were arrested by the agents of the NBI’s Special Action Unit (NBI-SAU) in an entrapment operation conducted based on the complaint of the alleged victim.
In a statement, the NBI also said that “seized during the operation include entrapment money, cellular phones and IDs of the Subjects.”
It said the complainant claimed that “Lam offered her a food supply project to more than 3,000 PNP personnel inside Camp Crame.”
It also said: “In order to entice the Complainant, Subject Lam used the names of various PNP officials as parties to the transaction. Lam even created a text and call app account of a particular PNP official to make it appear that the latter is indeed part of the transaction.”
“Consequently, Complainant shelled out P6 million to Subject Lam, allegedly to facilitate favorable bidding result for the Complainant,” the NBI said.
“Subject even provided the Complainant with documents concerning the transaction, which upon verification with the PNP, were confirmed to be falsified,” it said.
It noted that when Lam asked the complainant for another P1.5 million, “the Complainant decided to seek the help of the NBI.”
