The global live video streaming market already reached an estimated US$43B in 2020 and is projected to grow at the rate of 28.1% per year -- estimated to be worth US$247B by 2027. In Southeast Asia alone, there are more than 1.4 million social media conversations around livestream shopping since 2021 -- a 213% jump from the 2020 data.
Here in the Philippines, the number of video streaming users increased to about 5.2 million in 2020, and demographics from Statista’s Share of SVOD users say that 35% of them are aged 25 and 34 years old, while another 30.2% are aged between 18 and 24 years old.
During a press briefing held online last week, Amazon Web Services announced the availability of Amazon Interactive Video Service (IVS) Points of Presence (PoPs) in Jakarta, Indonesia, and Manila, Philippines. Amazon IVS is a fully managed service that makes it easy to set up live, interactive video streams for a web or mobile application built on the same live streaming technology that powers Twitch.
Having Amazon IVS PoPs in the Philippines will enable end-users to benefit from lower latency by receiving and delivering video streams over local edge infrastructure that is optimized for live video ingest, processing, and delivery.
“Viewers are expecting more interactive behavior with live streaming content so that they can engage with experiences while the events are unfolding in front of them and not after — and it is complex, time-consuming, and expensive. Traditionally, it takes months to build these interactive applications with video workflows to ingest the content into the stream,” according to Paul Chen, Head of Solutions Architecture in ASEAN.
