NBI nabs ‘illegal recruiter’ at NAIA

National Bureau of Investigation (2)

A suspected illegal recruiter has been arrested at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Pasay City, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) said.

The NBI identified her as Jonalyn D. Bueno who was intercepted by immigration authorities last April 10 before she and her two companions could depart for Singapore.

“Verification with the Department of Migrant Workers revealed thru a certification that Subject Bueno is not licensed/authorized to recruit workers for overseas employment,” it said.

Bueno was charged before the Pasay City Prosecutor’s Office with violations of Republic Act No. 8042, the Migrant Workers and Overseas Filipinos Act of 1995.

The NBI said the NAIA immigration authorities intercepted Bueno “after she was suspected of transporting with two (2) other passengers illegally recruited to work abroad.”

The two passengers were identified by the NBI as Normina M. Sapad and Joy V. Agassid, both of whom Bueno initially claimed as friends who would travel with her to Singapore.

The NBI said investigators learned from Sapad that a cousin working in Dubai introduced Bueno who was described as having “sent a lot of people to Dubai for employment as she owns a travel agency named KABSAT Travel and Tours.”

It said that Sapad informed the NBI that she paid Bueno P63,000 after being informed that “she will take care all her documents and they will first travel to Singapore as tourists while preparing for her visa and ticket for Dubai.”

From Agassid, the NBI learned that “Subject Bueno offered her work in Dubai as a cleaner and was told that they will travel first to Singapore as tourists while preparing for her visa for Dubai.”
