NBI has started probing 'fake sex videos' even before help was sought by Aika Robredo – DOJ

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has started probing the 'fabricated sex videos' even before Aika Robredo, the daughter of presidential candidate and Vice President Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo, sought the agency’s help, Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Menardo I. Guevarra said on Friday, April 22.

“Even before the request was made by Ms. Robredo, the DOJ had already alerted the NBI about the matter,” Guevarra said.

“The DOJ is ready to protect and assist anyone, regardless of political color, who may have been the victim of any malicious or felonious act in cyberspace,” he assured.

DOJ Undersecretary Adrian Ferdinand S. Sugay said Aika’s complaint has been assigned to the NBI’s Cybercrime Division (NBI-CCD).

Earlier, the camp of Vice President Robredo had issued a statement that declare the sex video fake.

Robredo’s Spokesman Barry Gutierrez said that her camp will be taking action against those behind the fake sex video.

“Malinaw na krimen ito (This is clearly a crime),” he said in a statement.

“This is a malicious fabrication and we have reported it to the platforms concerned para matake-down (to take down). Our lawyers are studying our options for legal action,” he added.

Gutierrez said the fake video is part of a tactics to lure Robredo’s supporters to attack other candidates and prevent more converts to the vice president’s side.

“Kaya nga ang tamang response dito: Hold the line tayo para sa pag-ibig. Be firm but kind sa pagtatama ng disinformation, kahit gaano ito kawalanghiya (That’s why the right response: hold the line for love. Be firm but kind in correcting disinformation),” he said.
